ABOUT LIZ

Liz Levy, RN, BSN, IBCLC
Breastfeeding/chestfeeding is a natural process but also a learning experience for both the parent and baby. Studies have shown that parents are more successful with breast/chest feeding if they have professional support from an International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC). IBCLCs, like myself, go through a rigorous educational program including specialized training in complex feeding issues and must pass a comprehensive exam before being certified. We also use the latest research to complement our practice and must re-certify every 5 years.

I graduated from the University of Kansas with degrees in Human Biology and Nursing and was a Neonatal Intensive Care (NICU) nurse for six and a half years. I have always been passionate about breastfeeding and loved to see the difference that human milk made for the babies I took care of in the NICU, leading me to become IBCLC certified in 2014.

My goal as a lactation consultant is to help you reach your goals. I aim to help babies not just gain weight and grow, but establish good oral function and feeding skills that will set them up for a lifetime of success, health, and wellness. Each family is different and I pride myself on being able to tailor my services to what works best for your family and your life. I offer group and private prenatal breast/chest feeding classes as well as postpartum lactation consultations.

While I can help with most breast/chest feeding and bottle feeding struggles, I specialize in pre- and post-revision oral tether (tongue tie, lip tie, buccal tie) management. I have both personal and professional experience with these complex issues and understand what it's like to be a parent navigating this journey. Both of my kids struggled with oral dysfunction and ties as infants. However, through hard work, determination, and fantastic collaborative care with a few area providers, my kids were able to breastfeed successfully, each for at least 2 years. I also have special training in oral function assessment and habilitation (helping with improvement in function of the tongue and mouth) and am listed as a preferred provider on the Kansas Tongue Tie Education Group. During each initial consult, I will perform a functional assessment of your baby's mouth to determine if referral to another oral tie professional or bodyworker is necessary and can help you coordinate the care team your baby will need to give them the best chance of feeding optimally.
